How to Make a Starbucks Matcha Latte at Home: A Step-by-Step Guide

  • Author: chef olivia
  • Total Time: 5 minutes

Description

A creamy, vibrant, and energizing drink made with high-quality matcha green tea powder, milk, and a touch of sweetness. Perfect for a morning boost or an afternoon pick-me-up.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tsp (2-3g) high-quality matcha green tea powder

  • 2 tbsp (30ml) hot water (about 175°F/80°C, not boiling)

  • 1 cup (240ml) milk (dairy or plant-based like almond, oat, or soy)

  • 12 tsp honey, maple syrup, or sugar (optional, for sweetness)

  • Ice cubes (optional, for an iced latte)

Instructions

  1. Sift the matcha: Sift the matcha powder into a bowl to remove any clumps.

  2. Whisk the matcha: Add the hot water to the matcha powder. Using a bamboo whisk (or a small regular whisk), whisk vigorously in a “W” or “M” motion until the matcha is fully dissolved and frothy.

  3. Heat the milk: Warm the milk in a saucepan or microwave until hot but not boiling. For an iced latte, skip this step and use cold milk.

  4. Combine: Pour the matcha mixture into a mug. Add the warm milk (or cold milk for iced) and stir gently. Sweeten with honey, maple syrup, or sugar if desired.

  5. Serve: Enjoy hot or pour over ice for an iced latte.

Notes

  • Matcha quality: Use ceremonial-grade matcha for the best flavor and vibrant green color.

  • Whisking: If you don’t have a bamboo whisk, a small regular whisk or even a milk frother can work.

  • Customization: Adjust the sweetness and milk ratio to your preference.
